ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Rapides Parish Family in Need Services, (FINS), Program teamed up with Alexandria Middle Magnet School to celebrate and support youth throughout Alexandria on March 5, 2022.

This is the second year the Rapides Parish FINS Program has sponsored the annual event in collaboration with Alexandria Middle Magnet School. Saturday’s program, “Making Men March,” was a day of mentoring and activities for male youth throughout the area. Men of the community spoke at the event, sharing personal stories, life lessons and advice with the young participants.

Renisha Beaudion, Principal at Alexandria Middle Magnet School, said she appreciates the effort from the Rapides Parish FINS office, Rapides Parish Sheriff Office, My Community Cares, CENLA Community Actions and Honorable Judge John Davison to put on a positive and enriching event such as “Making Men March,” as she recalls one of the most memorable moments from Saturday’s program.

“The best part about today was, a student came to sit by me after playing basketball. He told me how touched and moved he was; how it made a difference in his life. Some of the speakers that they heard, especially Mr. Teasley. He has two brothers who were victims of gun violence and they were murdered. The fact that Mr. Teasley’s statements and talks that he had with the youth today moved him that much for him to come and sit by me and tell me how he was moved and what impact it had on him to want to make changes in life. I know we’re doing exactly what we need to do, in order to reach our kids where they are.”

About 50 participants attended last year’s event. FINS Director, Dasha Black-Roberts, said this year, nearly 150 male youth came to the “Making Men March” program.

The Rapides Parish FINS office is affiliated with the Ninth Judicial District Court Juvenile Division and is designed to prevent juveniles from being involved in the court system.
