APD arrests juvenile in connection with University Street homicide
ALEXANDRIA, La. (APD and KALB) - Alexandria Police have arrested a 15-year-old in connection with a homicide that occurred around 4:58 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of University Street.
The juvenile has been charged with second degree murder, illegal possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
APD confirmed that a 16-year-old victim died from a gunshot wound sustained in this incident.
According to District 3 City Councilwoman Cynthia Perry, the shooting happened shortly after Peabody High School’s Graduation, sharing that it was a student that was shot.
Perry said she needs the city’s help to stop gun violence, especially among the youth.
“When an individual has on their mind what they want to do and thought about the things they want to do, I don’t think anyone can change their minds,” Perry said. “You have to get out there to talk to them to try to change their minds. It’s a mindset for them. I feel our young people are not afraid. They are fearless and that’s not what we need.”
This is an ongoing investigation. If anyone has any information about this incident, please contact the detective division at 318-449-5099.
