Balanced Calendar not adopted for Rapides Parish schools

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - The Balanced Calendar has not been adopted for schools in Rapides Parish. Schools will be sticking with the Traditional Calendar instead.

The Rapides Parish School Board voted unanimously to stick with the Traditional Calendar on Tuesday, Feb. 1.

A presentation was made before voting, showing information gathered from community meetings over the past couple of months and the results from the final community survey. That final survey showed a total of 9,324 people responding with 79 percent against the idea and 21 percent agreeing with the idea.

With all of the information gathered, the board found it best to make a substitute motion to instead adopt the traditional calendar. That substitute motion was passed and the board made a unanimous vote.

The audience at the meeting commended the board for the process of holding community meetings and allowing the public to share their thoughts. Now, the board plans to move forward with new ideas to work towards increasing achievement and opportunities for students in Rapides Parish.
