-Little change in temperature Friday morning with an average low of 75 degrees and a few areas of fog. The lowest reading was 73 degrees in Leesville, at the Oakdale airport, and northwest of Natchitoches. The Natchitoches airport reported 77 degrees.
-The ridge of high pressure aloft strengthened its grip on central Louisiana and the result was an average high of 98 degrees, the highest of the year so far. Also, the highest temperatures of the year thus far were observed in Winn Parish where Joyce and Atlanta hit 102 degrees. It was 101 at Packton, Winnfield, and near Robeline. In contrast, Fort Polk only reached 93 degrees because nearby convection checked the high temperature early. With high humidity, the heat index peaked between 110 and 115 degrees at some locations.
-With the ridge stronger, convection was at a minimum with areal coverage about 10%. Peak amounts: 0.19 near Hornbeck, and 0.01 near Folk Polk and at Lanan Bay in Sabine Parish.
